Northwestern Mutual Announces 2021 Dividend

The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company today announced its plans to pay participating policy owners a combined $6.2 billion in dividends in 2021.  This payout represents the largest total payout of dividends in Northwestern's history and will most likely be the largest aggregate payout of dividends among all U.S. life insurers.

Despite the headwinds Covid 19 poses to many businesses, Northwestern also announced several other praiseworthy achievements throughout 2020 to date.  The company announced it achieved a new record in new clients in 2020 and put in force a record number of permanent life insurance policies.  It also noted that it currently has on the fastest-growing Broker/Dealers in the country.

Northwestern Mutual 2021 Dividend Interest Rate

The new dividend interest rate for 2021 will be 5.00% for Northwestern whole life policyholders.  This is the same dividend interest rate in 2020.  As a reminder, our dividend analysis from earlier this year stated that a dividend rate below 4.81%  was potentially indicative of stronger headwinds facing Northwestern's dividend-paying abilities.  They appear to have weathered 2020 quite well.
